Precision FacDev

Are you looking for tailored guidance on an issue like strategic planning or launching an initiative?

What is Precision FacDev?

The kinds of issues this program can help with include (but are not limited to):

  • Strategic planning for educational programs
  • Getting buy-in for your academic initiatives
  • Developing and leading multi-institutional collaborations
  • Challenging leadership issues within your team
  • Developing novel curricula

Keith Wycliffe-Jones, then Postgraduate Education Director in the Department of Family Medicine, described his experience with Precision FacDev as:

The consultation and support provided by OFDP really helped us develop our mission and vision statements....something that we didn't have before.  The external facilitation provided through this review allowed those in leadership roles to focus on the work rather than on the organization and logistics of the review itself.  This was a relief and a very "freeing" way of doing things for those so closely associated with the day-to-day running of our Programs.

The output from this process was incredibly powerful as it has helped explain our purpose much more clearly to our stakeholders.  It has also provided an important foundation for the further work that came from this, including a set of Program Goals, an aligned Program Evaluation model and, more recently, an  Organizational Design review looking at our leadership and administrative structures and processes.

Requirements:

To access this consultation service, you must have an appointment with the University of Calgary (clinical/adjunct/adjunct research or GFT), be part of AHS or belong to a community-based health or service organization.  We can consider other requests for consultation on a case-by-case basis.

How it works:

  1. You fill out a consultation request using the form below.
  2. OFDP confirms receipt of your request within 1 business day.
  3. OFDP reviews your request and identifies the best person to be your consultant.  (In the event the needs you describe are outside the expertise of OFDP, we will connect you with the right person outside our unit.)
  4. You have your one-hour consultation, after which you will leave with concrete options to move your issue forward. (If needed, you will have the option to book a follow-up session.)
